What is Rover?

Rover is a robot possessing "artificial" intelligence. Modeled on NASA's Mars Explorer, Rover not only sees and speaks, but listens and learns. This technological marvel will transmit video and sound 24/7 to the Internet while traveling an unprecedented 2,907 miles in 182 days. Rover also has "secret talents".

What is Cam Across America?

What if one of the rovers currently on Mars, landed on Earth instead? Would it find signs of intelligent life? Later this year Rover, a "Computer Assisted Machine" will land in California, and travel to New York, relying only on it's "wits", and "the kindness of strangers".
Rover's 26 week adventure will be monitored live, and assisted by the world 24/7 on the Internet. Edited, the incredible highlights of Rover's interactions with people from all walks of life, will create a new form of television entertainment. From the back yards and bedrooms of America comes a reality based dramedy series where truth is stranger than fiction.

How is Rover programmed?

Rover is programmed to follow directions, be honest, inquisitive, patient, gracious, and helpful. Utilizing a satellite link to Mission Control, Rover has access to all human knowledge. Rover has no experience in the "real" world, but learns from mistakes.

What is the "kindness of strangers"?

For all of Rover's high tech knowledge and stealth, it's very survival will depend upon the kindness of strangers. At the end of each day, Rover will find someone to recharge it's batteries (standard electrical outlet for eight hours). Always the gracious guest, Rover will remain active during recharging, providing the overnight host with stimulating conversation and high tech entertainment, while quietly documenting the events in the house.

As Rover tackles tough terrain, there will be the inevitable mishaps. If Rover gets stuck in a ditch, a distress notice detailing location and symptoms will be immediately posted on the Internet . Will the person Rover asks for help be a Good Samaritan... or a psychopath? We'll know for sure what kind of stuff the American people are made of as we anxiously watch and wait for our robotic friend to receive assistance.

The Internet audience will also assist Rover by voting on "critical decisions"; i.e., "which road should Rover take?", " which person should Rover play a game with?" etc.

All rescuers and hosts will also receive Rover Rewards: "Smart Coupons" redeemable for goods or services, and printed out or beamed by Rover.

Night and day, people will track and anticipate Rover's next location. Exhibitionists will stop at nothing to find Rover and grab their fifteen minutes of fame. Others will want to hide from it. Where Rover will show up next? Las Vegas? Mardi Gras? The Academy Awards? It could even show up at your house... at a bad time.

What is Rover made of?

Rover is equipped with 4 wheel drive, robotic arms, cameras, microphones, speakers, video displays, and much more... (see SPECIFICATIONS).

What if someone steals or hurts Rover?

This will make an interesting episode.

What/where is Mission Control?

Mission Control is the source of Rover's main brains, and is located in Hollywood, California.

What is the "Chase Bus"?

The chase bus follows Rover from a distance, and records full frame rate video and sound transmitted from Rover's cameras and microphones. The "chase crew" provides additional P.O.V. footage using digital camcorders.

When can I buy the toy version?

Good question!
